TOP 5 :: "Production" :: #5 :: DROP the LIME!

Drop the Lime

Drop the Lime a.k.a. Curses! a.k.a. Luca Venezia (given name) is currently in my Top 5 production-wise.  Via The Windish Agency :
Drop The Lime’s influences range from Brian Eno to rockabilly (he’s well known for his 50s doo wop and soul sets) to Sonic Youth to Wu Tang but things don’t just stop there. He also runs Trouble & Bass, an influential New York club night and label since 2006. The Trouble & Bass crew are the DJs who are defining a new New York sound.
His tracks speak for themselves + his rockabilly mixes are very proper -- see below!

Drop the Lime - Devil's Eyes (A B-LIVE Original)
Drop the Lime - Devil's Eyes (LUCA'S B-LIVE Club Mix)
The Bravery - Slow Poison (Drop the Lime Remix)

DESIRE.

Photobucket

Signed to the Mike Simonetti-founded dance label 'Italians Do It Better', the trio of Megan (vocals & synthesizer), Johnny (guitar & synthesizer beats), and Natty (drums & synthesizer) known as DESIRE provide quite a soft & endearing sound.  Described as "moody 80s inspired cosmic disco" by the guys over at Turntable Lab, the group's LP entitled "II" is a must for fans of Italo-Disco (Pick it up HERE).  Below is their further review:
Desire is a group out of Montreal, making their debut (despite the title of the album) via Italians Do It Better, and their sound is almost like what might happen if 80s Fleetwood Mac and Tears For Fears had a goth baby. IDIB have never been known to release crazy dancefloor bangers, but even so, this one is definitely a more mellow entry in their catalog of shoegaze disco. Check out "Montre Moi Ton Visage(1)," "Miroir Miroir(2)," "Don't Call(3)," "Dans Mes Reves(4)," and "Under Your Spell(5)" for a few examples of what I'm talking about. It might not shake any asses, but this is exactly the album you want to have on if you're making out with Ally Sheedy's character from The Breakfast Club. Recommended.
'Miroir Miroir' (or 'Mirror Mirror') is the first single from the LP.

If you dig their stuff, have a listen to the following tracks from their labelmates:

Chromatics - Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush Cover) [myspace]
Glass Candy - Beatific [myspace]
Bottin - Theme From St. Mark 30124 [myspace]

+ a Jackson 5 bonus EDIT from label-founder Mike Simonetti [myspace] :

Jackson 5 - Body Language (Mike Simonetti Edit)

Also make sure to check out DESIRE's photoblog .  My personal favorite:
